Donate Aeroplan Miles – until November 15th

PLEASE HELP CMETrust BRING OUR TWO KENYAN AGENTS TO CANADA!

Dear Friends of CMETrust,

CMETrust has enrolled in Aeroplan’s charitable pooling program. This means anyone who collects Aeroplan Miles can donate miles to CMETrust, to help bring Titus and Benedict, our two Kenyan Agents, to Canada!

As you may know, CMETrust is nearing the end of our fifth year of operations. Since 2006, CMETrust has supported over 58 students from Mathare Slum in secondary school, of which 13 have successfully graduated. Recently, we learned that one of last year’s CMETrust graduates, Samson, has achieved high enough marks to receive “direct entry” to university (supported by a government loan), one of the first from the slum to accomplish this great feat!

CMETrust’s success is owed in part to our generous donors, like you, our dedicated volunteers and our hard working Board of Trustees, and in part to our very capable and committed Kenyan Agents, Titus and Benedict whose idea started it all. For the last five years, Titus and Benedict have dedicated countless hours to implementing the work of CMETrust on the ground in Mathare. As Kenyan Agents, Titus and Benedict are the primary point of contact with the CMETrust scholarship recipients, and responsible for escorting students to their boarding schools, liaising with their parents & guardians, organizing meetings and school-break activities in Mathare, keeping CMETrust books and records up to date in challenging conditions, continually sending pictures and documents to Canada, welcoming volunteers and visitors to Mathare, establishing partnerships on the ground in Kenya, providing mentorship to our new Mathare in Focus Alumni Committee, having weekly phone meetings with CMETrust’s President in Canada, guiding our pilot post-secondary scholarship program, and the list goes on and on – in a word, they’re outstanding! The biggest challenge, however, that comes from working together across an ocean, is that our Board members and Kenyan Agents rarely get to meet face to face, although a few Board members have visited Kenya. As CMETrust moves into our next 5-year period, we can think of no better time to bridge this gap by inviting Titus and Benedict to Canada to participate in our 2012 CMETrust Board evaluation, strategic planning and team-building workshop. The visit will also allow Titus and Benedict to meet and interact with volunteers and donors in both Toronto and Ottawa, and to participate in our Kitchener-Waterloo chapter’s annual Cheers for Children event, on June 9th 2012. But for this, we need your help…

What you can do:
Through Aeroplan’s Charitable Pooling Program, anyone who collects Aeroplan Miles can donate them towards Titus and Benedict’s trip to Canada. From 12 October – 15 November 2011, just complete the pledge form, sign, send the form to info@CMETrust.org and Ta-Da! donation complete – Each and every mile counts!
